Objective

DS Smith, a leading recycling packaging solutions company in the UK, was looking to enhance its manufacturing training program with Immersive Learning.

This immersive experience aims to standardize and communicate good corrugator operating practices to all technicians on site, without any constraint and risk.

Description

The learners are immersed inside a DS Smith factory, first they must equipped with the right PPE and identify the risks at their workstation by interacting with them.

Then, they must carry out a complete corrigator reel replacement in VR, ensuring that the Safety and Quality guidelines are followed. Through interactions with the machines and technical quizzes, the learner will be able to acquire new skills and knowledge while practicing in real life situation.

Results

The pilot site in Nantes, DS Smith Packaging Atlantique, has seen the first results of VR in their operational training. They notice overall:

  • A better learning efficiency and a training time reduction
  • An increased awareness on safety and quality
  • A dozen experiments have been created, available in multiple languages
